Random Thoughts
So I've had some time lately to watch TV (gives the term boob tube a new meaning). I'm now drastically limiting my television watching during the day to maintain my sanity, plus I have a ton of magazines and books I have yet to read, and they just keep coming. I just started "Don Quixote," too, but we'll see how far I get with that. Anyway, I've been watching lots of Law & Order. I also saw "The Simple Life" for the first time. It was pretty much what I expected. Coincidentally, the next day CNN was camped out at Paris Hilton's house for her dramatic return to jail. The scrum were literally chasing the police car down her driveway, as I'm sure you all saw in video clips. "It's not a Bronco chase, but it's pretty close!" one TV newscaster said. Wha??? I know I'm late commenting on this, but please. I think the most annoying thing was later that night watching the network news. NBC had the Paris story as its third or so story, and they seemed to legitimize that by pointing out that the cable news networks had breathlessly pursued the story and even broken into the news conference about Peter Pace to give updates on Paris. As if that makes their prominent coverage ok (We're not actually reporting on Paris, we're reporting on how others are reporting on Paris!). It's a classic and totally lame news strategy. I just don't care about "celebrity justice," or Paris Hilton. Whatever, already!
Today, I'm trying to avoid news about the Sopranos so that when it finally comes out on DVD in about two years, it will still be a surprise. Maybe I should just sign up for HBO On Demand for a week and watch them all. Not a bad idea. Matt and I have been Netflixing old episodes of "Arrested Development," which is damn funny and clever. And I think the acting is great. Too bad not enough TV viewers liked it enough to keep it on the air. But if you're looking for something to add to your Netflix queue, check it out!
So that's my two cents for the day. Pretty stream of consciousness, but I haven't been doing much high-level contemplation lately. All is still well in our household. Last night the three of us even went out to dinner together. Granted, it was super casual seafood outside in Minnehaha Park, but still. It felt good to get out, and Madeleine complied by sleeping the whole time.
